The Clarendon Players

Welcome to the website of The Clarendon Players, Wootton Bassett’s award winning Amateur Dramatic Group, in our 41st year of staging plays in the town.

The year started with success at the 2010 Harold Jollife One-Act-Festival, where 'Beware Conjecture', a new play written by two members of the Group, Paula and Derek Clifford, won the Swindon Advertiser Award for an Original Production. We were very pleased that a performance of the play by the festival cast and crew at the Memorial Hall subsequently raised £180 for Help the Heroes.

Having amused receptive audiences with our recent production of David McGillivray and Walter Zerlin Jnr's comedy, The Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen's Guild Dramatic Society's Production of Macbeth, we have now cast our next production. This will be Peter Gordon's hilarious comedy, Death by Fatal Murder and will be staged from November 11th - 13th. Glenn Chapman once again plays Inspector Pratt, who is as helpless and hopeless as ever! Doreen Hewer takes the role of Miss Jean Maple and is joined by a number of Clarendon Players' stalwarts including Wendy Mitchell, Lloyd Morgans, Sally Hopkins, Rosemary Crayford and Neil Edwards. Karen Smith directs.

If you enjoyed our past productions, we hope that you will come to see our next show. If you were unable to get tickets for any of the shows, why not consider becoming a Patron? For an annual fee of only £19 you are entitled to a ticket for each production and you can book seats before they go on general release.

Hopefully this site will encourage you to come along and join us as a member or patron or to buy a ticket for one of our plays. Although we are amateur in the sense that we put on plays for fun, we aim to put on as professional a show as we can for our audiences and this is reflected by the reviews that we receive. We provide excellent value for money, with tickets being only £6.00 for an evening's entertainment (concessions £5.00).

We hope you enjoy looking at our web site - there are lots of photos from past productions in our Photo Gallery. For more information about the Clarendon Players, please contact Alec Smith at ahlsmith@aol.com
